What to Wear on a UTV Off-Road Tour in Baja — Gear Checklist
By George / April 27, 2026 / No Comments / Baja Adventure

Most first-timers show up in flip-flops and a swimsuit. Here is exactly what to wear — and what to leave at the resort — for a comfortable, safe, and unforgettable off-road day in Baja California.
The Absolute Basics
Closed-toe shoes minimum. Sneakers work fine; hiking boots are better. Long pants or convertible hiking trousers. A shirt you do not mind getting dusty — because it will. A bandana or neck gaiter for dust sections. Sunglasses with a strap so they stay on at speed.
What Your Operator Provides
Any operator worth booking provides a DOT-certified helmet, goggles, and gloves at no extra charge. Take The Wheel Baja includes all safety gear with every booking. If an operator does not mention helmets upfront, that is a red flag.
Sun Protection in Baja
UV index in Los Cabos runs extreme for most of the year. Apply SPF 50 or higher before leaving the hotel. Bring a small tube in the vehicle and reapply at the halfway point. Areas people consistently forget: back of neck, tops of hands, forearms. All of them get scorched.
What Not to Bring
No flip-flops or open sandals. No loose scarves or lanyards — snag hazards at speed. No unsecured camera equipment. No expensive watches or jewelry. Leave at the hotel anything you would be upset to lose.
Cold Morning Reality
November through March, early morning desert temps in Baja can be 55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Bring a packable windbreaker you can strip off mid-ride. By 10am you will not need it — but you will be glad you had it at the start.
